With every new AI design tool, the same question pops up: “Is AI going to replace designers?” It’s a fair question. But here’s what we believe – AI might change how we design, but it won’t replace the why. Here’s our take on where AI helps, where it falls short, and why human creativity still leads the way.
The Hype Is Real – But So Is the Fear
From layout generators to content tools, AI is moving into design spaces fast. And sure, it can be impressive.
But also? Overwhelming.
There’s this looming narrative that designers are on borrowed time. We don’t buy it.
What AI Is Really Good At
AI is great at:
- Generating quick concepts
- Recommending visual patterns
- Speeding up repetitive tasks
- Supporting early ideation
These are all helpful. They make the process faster. Smoother. More collaborative.
But…
Where AI Still Falls Short
Here’s what AI doesn’t (yet) do well:
- Understand nuanced brand storytelling
- Solve emotional or human-centered problems
- Balance accessibility, ethics, and cultural context
- Make judgment calls when the data says one thing and the users say another
Design is more than patterns. It’s about people.
Why Designers Aren’t Going Anywhere
Designers don’t just push pixels. They:
- Ask better questions
- Challenge assumptions
- Advocate for users
- Collaborate across teams
- Add soul to the solution
AI can assist. But it doesn’t replace that strategic spark.
Great design isn’t just how fast you get from blank screen to button. It’s how thoughtful the solution feels when you land there.
Our Take: Use AI, But Lead With Intention
We use AI in our own workflows. It helps us:
- Move faster in early stages
- Get unstuck during idea droughts
- Explore directions we may not have considered
But we still lead with clarity, creativity, and care.
Because while AI can support the work, only people can shape the vision.
